Yoga

Yoga is not a competitive sport but a practice of self awareness, love and connection.

Please arrive at True Nature Healing Arts, 10-15 minutes before your class begins so that you don’t feel rushed.  Check in with our front desk staff before you head upstairs to class; coats and shoes may be stored upstairs in the studio reception area.   Please do not wear perfume or strong scents as others may have allergies or sensitivities. If this is your first class, you will need to fill out a new student waiver.  If you need a mat, we have Jade Yoga and Manduka mats available for use.

Before beginning your class, please share any questions or concerns with your teacher and let them know about any past injuries or medical issues that may affect your practice.

During class, if you are having difficulty, do not hesitate to ask for help. Be gentle and honor yourself and the practice. Let go of any expectations and dedicate yourself to being in the moment with your breath and body. All will unfold as it needs.

Yoga Instructor

Alexa’s heart led her to yoga. While her practice of yoga began as a physical journey, it was her heart that deeply craved freedom and kept her on the path. Yoga now spills into all aspects of her life—how she chooses to eat, think, communicate, move, feel, express, and ultimately be—it is the fabric that holds her everyday life together. Alexa studies in the tantric tradition, specifically Para Yoga with Yogarupa Rod Stryker, with whom she is currently pursuing certification.

Tantra means “instrument,” “to expand beyond one’s limitations,” and “to weave.” In Alexa’s class, using tantric-based, intentional, free-form movement, you are able to expand out of your perceived limitations and weave spirit into your daily life. Alexa also incorporates music, inviting the sacred feminine to dance into the space. You can expect a practice that remembers and deeply connects to Self. Faith began the practice of yoga when she noticed a lack of flexibility in her body and needed balance while living a very active lifestyle. In addition to using yoga to access deep rest, to invigorate, calm, or to balance herself, yoga allows Faith to make the best choices for herself, to know when she is on or off course, and to care for herself on all levels.

Faith studies in the ParaYoga lineage of Rod Stryker and also has studied with Judith Lasater in Restorative Yoga. Students in Faith’s Balance classes can expect movement combined with breath, meditation, pranayama, and a practice designed with a specific intention in mind. In her Restore class, students can expect a quietly transformation and rejuvenating practice while resting deeply in supported poses held for long periods of time.

Tea Room

Tea Room

We encourage students to take what they learn in class and infuse it into their lives outside the classroom and off the mat. Just as yoga and meditation nourish our spirit, so are the things we put in our bodies. True Nature’s Tea Room features seasonal, organic, loose-leaf teas and fresh, raw juices and smoothies, locally sourced foods and decadent raw chocolates. All items served in the Tea Room are organic and designed to nourish deeply, not only because they are full of prana (energy) but also because they are full of simple, incredible flavor. Both teas and food items honor the seasons and include Ayurvedic spices and herbs to balance the dosha (elemental constitution) which predominates each season. Teas are consciously prepared using pH-balanced, purified water; juices and smoothies are blended using raw food principles to enhance health and vitality. Our chocolates are made from raw cacao and naturally sweetened. Everything we offer is fresh and alive, supporting wellness on all levels.

“Sangha” in Sanskrit means community. Our tea room is a gathering place for like-minded people seeking to awaken to their fullest potential, who know that nurturing the body with good food and drink is essential.  Sip with friends inside, take your juice out to the peace garden, settle into your book or journal, or browse in our boutique for loose-leaf tea and more. The Tea Room’s boutique is full of unique clothing, jewelry and moderately priced, mindfully sourced gift items that add a special hint of the sacred to any home, altar or office.

Peace Garden

Peace Garden

Eaden and Deva Shantay designed the Peace Garden to be an oasis of serenity in downtown Carbondale, a gift to the community. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the gentle energy of mother nature that is tenderly held in the Garden. Practice yoga within the yoga spiral that can accommodate up to 30 students. Relax on the earthen (cob) couches surrounding the fire circle—a place for teaching, Kirtan (sacred music), socializing and connecting with the spirit of fire. Take off your shoes and connect with the earth on our 5 Elements Reflexology Path. Reflexology is an ancient healing art using points on the feet that correspond to various parts of the body. This path is made of natural stones in a variety of shapes and patterns, designed to massage and stimulate those reflexology points. Pause along the way at one of the five alcoves and explore the elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. At the east end of the reflexology path, enjoy a meditative walk in the labyrinth. Sip tea and catch up with friends at True Sangha Tearoom’s outdoor patio. Each of these elements of the Peace Garden is infused with the aromatherapy of herbs and the vibrant colors of flowers, many of which are used in our loose-leaf teas. Drop by for a quiet break during your work day, join us for a fire ritual or kirtan, or meditate here at sunset—the Peace Garden represents the welcoming arms of the True Nature family.

When we practice the art of self-care, the body’s systems are soothed and tonified. It is our honor to nurture this process for our clients. Along with the
popular Swedish, deep-tissue and hot-stone massage therapies, True Nature also features Ayurvedic treatments such as Abhyanga, an ancient healing therapy that nourishes dry skin, centers the spirit and revitalizes the body.

Treatments can be conducted indoors in one of our two beautiful treatment rooms or al fresco during the warmer months in our private outdoor treatment space. The beauty of the environment at True Nature is a tonic for the eyes and the quiet, a solace for the mind. All oils and crémes used are completely organic and always chemical free—so pure that they are all
edible. True Nature also offers facials, private yoga and energy healing sessions.

Stop in for a massage with one of our top-notch practitioners or have a full morning or afternoon at True Nature Healing Arts—take a yoga class, have a massage, and then enjoy light lunch and tea while relaxing in the garden or the tea room. Like the other facets of TNHA, True Nature Petit Spa is here to to nourish your body, heart, mind and spirit.

Etiquette and Policies

When should I arrive?

If you are new to the TNHA spa, we ask that you fill out all required paperwork, which can be found on our website, before arriving for your appointment. New and returning clients both should arrive 15 minutes before their appointment start time. Please note that if you are late for your appointment, the treatment will still need to end on time as scheduled and no refund or discount will be applied.

What should I wear?
Do you have a shower available?

Wear comfortable clothing. When receiving a massage or Ayurvedic Treatment, you are unclothed with a sheet draped over you to maintain a sense of privacy. We recommend leaving the deeply hydrating oil on your skin and in your hair
for a few hours following the treatment, so it is best to wear clothing to your
appointment that you do not mind getting oily. If you need to shower, we do have a shower available for your use.

Can I eat before a treatment?

It is best to not eat within 2-3 hours of the start of your treatment time.

Should men shave before a facial?

It is best for men to shave the day before a facial to prevent skin sensitivity to exfoliation.

Can I tip on my credit card?

While cash tips are preferred, tipping on a credit card is also available.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If the appointment is cancelled within that window, the client will be charged 50% of the cost of the scheduled treatment. If we do not receive a cancellation call and the appointment is missed, the client will need to be charged 100% of the cost of the treatment.

Can I request a therapist?

Absolutely. If there is a therapist on staff that you enjoy working with, or if you have a strong preference towards a female or male therapist, please let us know.

If the client is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must be present at the initial intake.

Body Treatments

True Facial (60 or 90 minutes) $110/$150
Enjoy a luxurious facial with pure plant-based products customized for your skin type. The 60-minute treatment includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, neck and shoulder massage, and a quartz crystal treatment, a stone long renowned for its healing and regenerative properties. The 90-minute option adds in more specialized treatments, massage, and other healing therapies.

True Massage (60 or 90 minutes) $108/$155
Looking simply for a soothing and revitalizing massage? Receive a custom massage based on your needs, and feel your body sigh with relief as the tension melts away.

Abhyanga warm oil massage (90 minutes) $155
Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic full body massage using warm herbal oil chosen specifically for your constitution. Increase circulation and balance your energy while releasing deep seated tensions, toxins, and lymphatic congestion.

Hot Stone Massage (90 minutes) $165
In this treatment, hand harvested basalt stones are placed on chakras and energy points, releasing tightness and tension throughout the body. The weight, warmth, and stable quality of the stones, as well as their connection to the earth element, make them particularly grounding for Vata (the air dosha) types, especially during the winter.

Maha Marma Massage (60 minutes) $108
This sublime marma (energy point) sequence begins with a ritual of turning inward towards the senses. The marma points of the head and face are reverently anointed and treated, using sacred scents such as sandalwood, rose, and frankincense. With the aid of therapeutic grade essential oils, herbalized oils, stones, crystals, and chanting, each of the seven chakras and the three doshas are brought to balance.

Shirodhara oil drop therapy (60 minutes) $145
The crown jewel of the Ayurvedic therapies, Shirodhara involves a warm continuous flow of herbalized oil cascading over the forehead and crown, anointing the head, and dissolving physical and mental tension. Deeply balancing, Shirodhara can benefit those suffering from nervous exhaustion, stress, insomnia, headaches, depression, irritability, as well as many hormonal and nervous system issues.

Bliss Package (135 minutes) $245
The ultimate indulgence in self-care, the Bliss Treatment begins with a full body exfoliation using the Ayurvedic Silk Glove Exfoliation. Following the exfoliation, enjoy a 75-minute Abhyanga Warm Oil Massage. The treatment ends with the most blissful of the Ayurvedic treatments, the Shirodhara Oil Drop Therapy.
